Another verb that needs the reflexive to carry its meaning. You say I remember myself to mean I remember. The o splits under stress.
Note the "we" form: the stress moves off the o, so it does not split. Nos acordamos, not "nos acuerdamos".
With se lo hiding so many meanings, a sentence offering a choice between two people needs the a clarification on both.
No me acuerdo si se lo di a él o a ella
No nos acordamos si se lo dimos a él o a ellas
Note that both halves keep their own a: a él o a ella, not "a él o ella".
The student says "le lo gusta", combining the two structures. The instruction is firm: keep taking the literal middle step until you are extremely comfortable with how gustar works.
le gusta
There is no lo in it. The thing doing the pleasing is the subject, and the person is le.
Le gusta · Le gustó
This is the practical payoff. Without the literal version in mind, you would reach for "ella le gusta" for she likes it, which actually says somebody likes her.
The a is what marks her as the one being pleased. Both orders work as long as it is there.
Le gustó a ella (she liked it)
Le gusta can be he likes it, she likes it, or you (formal) like it. Context often settles it, but this group of he, she, it and formal you bunched together is exactly where you will most often want to clarify.
A clean illustration in one verb, worth noting because both forms appear in the same sentence pattern.
